Nepali Congress bars some district presidents from poll bid

KATHMANDU: The largest political party of the Parliament, Nepali Congress, decided to bar some of its district presidents from vying for the post again. According to a Central Working Committee meeting decision of the party, those who were elected district presidents in both 11th and 12th general conventions could not file candidacy for the same post in the upcoming 13th general convention. Meanwhile, the party decided to hold conventions of party committees at all levels on the decided dates. According to the party schedule, the local conventions would begin on January 29. Likewise, the party would hold the national general convention in the Capital on March 3-6. Meanwhile, the party welcomed endorsement of the first amendment to the Constitution from the Parliament on Saturday. The meeting also urged protesting parties to end border obstructions and other protest programmes and seek solutions to the problems through talks, according to a statement issued by its spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu. Government criticised The party also criticised the government for failing to control rampant black marketing and inflation and unilaterally forwarding post-earthquake reconstruction works without transparency. The main opposition party in the Parliament commented that the government revoked some political appointments made by the erstwhile government and transferred some civil servants with political interests.
