Kirtipur, August 4:
At a press conference held here today, the Nepal Students Union (NSU) of the Tribhuvan University (TU) committee, Kirtipur, demanded that the TU principal resign for using police force to evacuate the Kanti Hostel on July 31. The student body also blamed TU authorities for neglecting 15 point demand on which the NSU and TU principal’s office agreed upon around two months ago. The TU authorities and the Free Students Union, with police help, had evacuated the hostel on July 31. The NSU today locked the principal and warden’s offices. It said the re-listing of names for the hostel seats was biased as even the names of students who had been staying in the hostel for the last one year were not on the list. The NSU has also demanded an investigation into embezzlements carried out by the FSU — for taking Rs 30,000 to conduct an exchange programme, and Rs 30,000 for cleaning work taken during the Emergency from the principal. The NSU has alleged the programme was not held.
TU committee’s NSU president Pranay Singh ‘Munna’ said they would intensify their protests till principal submitted resignation.
