Rautahat, January 30 Nepali Congress’ VDC and municipal level conventions in Rautahat concluded successfully today amid the agitation of the United Democratic Madhesi Front. Of the total 84 VDCs and three municipalities, conventions in the remaining 10 per cent of the municipal wards and VDCs were held today. The party convention in the district had begun yesterday. However, the conventions were held amid disputes over active membership between the factions led by party president Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba. Meanwhile, party cadres have accused the leadership of nominating representatives behind closed doors without holding elections. “In most of the places, the representatives were nominated behind closed doors,” accused a cadre. The party has a total of 2,500 active members in 84 VDC committees in six constituencies of the district. Election officer Umesh Jha,however, expressed satisfaction at the peaceful conclusion of the convention. “ Though earlier the UDMF had threatened to disrupt the convention, we didn’t have to face any obstruction,” he said. He also sought the support of all for the success of the upcoming municipal, constituency-based and district conventions of the party.
