Kathmandu, February 3 At a time when the national general convention of CPN-UML aligned All Nepal National Free Students Union is just a week away, the selection of representatives for the convention is yet to be completed in some regions and districts. The three-day 22nd national general convention is due to be held from February 10 in Kathmandu. It is learnt that there were controversies in the selection of representative due to the proximity of cadres with various factions in the mother party - CPN-UML. Sources said that leaders in the mother party wanted their majority while selecting convention representatives therefore there were disputes and controversies. According to the poll schedule prepared by the union, the selection of convention representatives should have been completed in all 75 districts by January 20. Likewise, the representatives from region committees should have done this by January 22 but it didn’t happen. According to ANNFSU, around 1,800 representatives are participating in the convention, while around 250 representatives from regions, districts and universities are yet to be selected. Thomas Bastola, vice-president, ANNFSU said the bitter truth was that they had not been able to meet the poll schedule. He said, “We should be in the final stage of preparation for holding the convention by today, but due to dispute over selection of representatives, we have not been able to select convention representatives in some regions, districts and universities.” He stated that out of 14 regions, only in Seti Region, the representatives were selected through election while in other regions, they were not able elect representatives. There were controversies in various districts such as Surkhet, Saptari, Morang, Jumla and Solukhumbu.
