Nepali swimmer Gaurika Singh's dream run in the 12th South Asian Games continued on Tuesday at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatics Complex in Guwahati. Singh, who created history by winning Nepal’s first-ever individual medal of the regional competition on Sunday, won her third bronze medal with record timing. She finished third in 400m freestyle in four minutes and 40.93 seconds, breaking Sofia Shah’s mark of 5:07.91. Indian swimmers V Malvika (4:30.08) and Shivani Kataria (4:38.43) won gold and silver. Earlier, Singh shattered the 50m backstroke in heats. She finished the distance in 31.87 seconds to better her own mark of 35.85 seconds. In finals, Singh finished fourth in 32.57 seconds. This is the sixth time Singh broke national record in the ongoing tournament. She won bronze in 200m backstroke on Sunday before adding the 100m backstroke medal on Monday. Sofia Shah came fifth in 4:54.51 in 400m freestyle, while Shirish Gurung finished disappointing sixth in 4:531.54 in men’s section. In other events, Sofia Shah finished fifth in 50m freestyle in 28.85 seconds, while Kiran Karki and Shuvam Shrestha came seventh and eighth in men’s 50m breaststroke and Neharika Tandukar was eighth in women’s category.
