GHALEGAUN, LAMJUNG: A total of 3,094 tourists including 394 foreigners have visited Ghalegaun, a popular tourist destination in Lamjung district, in the first seven months of fiscal year 2015-16. According to a member of Ghalegaun Tourism Management Committee, Ashbir Ghale, a significant part of these tourists visited the village in three months only, between November to January. There were very few tourists visiting the place after the devastating April 25 and April 29 earthquakes in the country until mid-October. According to the committee, the numbers of visitors in the yesteryears would be about 23,000 including 1,000 foreigners every year. It has been learned that 35 households in Ghalegaun have been providing home stay facility for the visitors. Such facility had started 17 years ago with only 13 households.  The village has already celebrated its 16 annual festivals since then. According to the committee, the village has been established as one of the model villages in South Asia. Ghaleguan is located at 2,100 metres above the sea level which is two hours drive away from the Lamjung district headquarters, Besisahar. The location situates among Marsyangdi, Khudi and Madi rivers and furnishes with the vista of Lamjung, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Himalchuli mountains. Other attractions include the exploration of Gurung culture, Khonjekrama Lake in the Ghale Park, Gorkha Park with a view tower in Takun Chhon hill and Koima Park, said the president of Ghalegaun Rural Tourism Development committee, Prem Ghale.
