KATHMANDU: Police arrested seven persons with possession of an endangered tawny fish owl on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as Bishnu Amagain (25) of Phujel-7, Suman Lamichhane (19) of Phujel-1, Gorkha, Deep Raj Regmi (22) of Borlang-9, Gorkha, Birman Gurung (36) of Chaurpani-3, Gorkha, Prithvi Chemjong (37) of Kohabara-1, Jhapa, Bir Bahadur Khatri (45) of Pathari-14, Morang and Bhuben Lama (43) of Mahalaxmi Municipality-8, Lalitpur. Acting on a tip-off that the suspects were involved in illegal trading of tawny fish owl, a police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested them from Tarakeshwor Municipality of Kathmandu. The confiscated endangered bird has been handed over to the District Forest Office, Hattisar, police said. Police said that they also seized a Mahendra Scorpio (Ba 13 Cha 4142), a pulsar bike (Ba 37 Pa 7392), a CBZ bike (Ba 53 Pa) and a Dio Scooter (Ba 52 Pa 3498). The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has kept the bird in the endangered list.
