BIRGUNJ: National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) under the National Agricultural Research Council (NARC) has examined 67 species of sugarcane for their production. NARI Director Dr Bindeshwor Prasad Sah distributed the new species to the farmers for further analysis at a sugarcane crops research programme organised in Jeetpur of Bara, on Thursday. Dr Sah remarked that the farmers would benefit from the research in the production of the crops in the country. Previously, the NARI had selected 15 sugarcane species for the final analysis out of total 107 provided to local farmers of Jeetpur in two phases. The programme coordinator Tuphail Akhtar said that the new species would be kept under coordinator variety trial and would be certified finally after the analysis of the crops in the farms. The NARC Biotechnology Division had begun assisting the crops research office of Jeetpur after it initiated the research following the closure in supply of sugarcane from India.
