UDMF cadres gherao NC lawmakers

Bara, February 18 Cadres of the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front gheraoed a hotel where five Nepali Congress lawmakers were holding a meeting in Kalaiya, Bara today. The UDMF cadres surrounded the Kalaiya Inn Hotel, where the NC leaders were holding a meeting, and did not allow them to walk out of the hotel. Earlier, the cadres of the agitating forces had announced that they would not allow leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Unified CPN-Maoist to carry out any party activities in the district. Stating that the NC leaders defied their warning, they gheraoed the hotel where NC leaders Farmullah Mansur, Radheshyam Yadav, Ram Ayodhya Yadav, Madhu Shahi and Lal Babu Singh were holding a meeting. A clash erupted between security personnel and the agitating activists after a large number of security personnel were deployed to take the NC legislators out of the hotel. Police opened three rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. Brij Kishor Sah, Shesh Nath Kushwaha, Abdulkalam sustained injuries in the clash. They have been receiving treatment at Kalaiya Hospital, said Bara chair of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Nabal Kishor Singh. Though the security situation has been beefed up, NC leaders have not been able to come out of the hotel due to the agitators’ demonstration. The leaders are bound to lock themselves in the room due to the chaos.
