Kathmandu, February 19 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Top Bahadur Rayamajhi today said the government had unveiled a ten-year action plan to develop and promote the country’s energy sector. Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Reporters’ Club here today, DPM Rayamajhi said those who obstruct construction of hydropower projects would be booked under the Public Offence Act. Stating that although Nepal saw the establishment of hydro power projects for the first time some 105 years ago, he regretted that the sector had long been neglected. Hence, the new action plan aims to tap the hydropower potential of the country. He added that the Nepali Army could be mobilised in order for the security of under-construction hydropower projects. “The government is taking initiatives to rid the country of load-shedding woes within a year. For this, the government will also promote alternative energy,” said Rayamajhi. The government is also planning to import 80 megawatts electricity through Dhalkebar-Mujjafapur transmission line, according to Rayamajhi.
