KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of Nepali Congress  held a meeting on Tuesday for the first time after the death of party President Sushil Koirala, and held brief discussion on the preparations for the party's upcoming 13th national general convention. Acting President of the party, Ram Chandra Paudel, chaired the meeting. The NC general convention is scheduled for March 3-6 in Kathmandu. Though the meeting, held at the party's central office in Sanepa, was expected to discuss the agenda of increasing the number of office bearers through an amendment of the party statute, it could not happen as Ananda Dhungana, Coordinator of the Statute Amendment Committee, was out of the Valley. Senior leader of the party and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba did not attend today's meeting. CWC members Mahesh Acharya, Bal Krishna Khand, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Suryaman Gurung, Chandra Bhattarai and Govinda Bhattarai aired their views in today's meeting. Meanwhile, the CWC decided to draw the attention of government and other stakeholders to give full shape to the Judicial Council as per the Constitution prior to appointing judges, the party's central office said in a statement. The next meeting of the CWC has been scheduled for Thursday.
