KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sujata Koirala on Wednesday officially announced her candidacy for the post of party president. She made the announcement by organising a press conference at her residence in Mandikhatar of Kathmandu this afternoon. During the conference, Koirala said that she had decided to vie for the top post of the party to safeguard the political line of former Prime Ministers BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala. Though Sujata Koirala announced her candidacy for the NC president, she did not announce the names of those vying for the posts of general secretary among others from her panel. Along with Koirala, Ram Chandar Paudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula from the establishment faction and Sher Bahadur Deuba from the rival faction are vying for the post of party president. Paudel and Situala are announcing their candidacies for the top post of the party today while Deuba will announce his candidacy tomorrow. The 13th general convention of the NC will commence in Kathmandu from tomorrow and conclude on March 6.
