Kathmandu: The agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front announced new protest programmes against what it calls discriminatory provisions of the constitution. According to a press release issued by the UDMF Secretariat here onWednesday, the front decided to continue its signature campaign in support of its demands. The front said that it would carry out an awareness programme in the Tarai from March 8 to March 14 which includes interaction and corner meetings across Madhes. The front also announced it would organise rallies in Kailali, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha and Rupandehi on March 18 to protest the government crackdown against UDMF cadres in those districts. On March 20, the front will burn a collective effigy of the erstwhile Constituent Assembly members who promulgated the constitution. The front also protested yesterday’s decision of the Judicial Council to appoint 11 justices saying the JC violated the constitutional provision that guaranteed the right to social justice. “The recommendation made by the Judicial Council is indicative of discriminatory approach of the state and as long as this attitude continues, deprived communities cannot get justice in the country,” the front said in its release.
