Bhaktapur youth sent to jail for raping own sister

BHAKATPUR: A man convicted of raping his own sister has been sentenced to 16 years in prison by the Bhaktapur District Court. Issuing a verdict to this end on Friday, the Court also ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs 300,000 to the victim, Court Registrar Shreekrishna Bhattarai said. The 20-year-old youth from Nikosera of Madhayapur Thimi Municipality-13 who is currently living in Dadhikot of Anantalingeshwor Municipality-12 had raped his 22-year-old sister on November 7, 2015, investigations into the case revealed. The victim was expelled from home and even from her job after she filed a complaint against her brother with police despite objections from her family. The Court decided to provide Rs 200,000 as an immediate relief to the victim from the Gender-based Violence Elimination Fund under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare for her accommodation and education.
