By Himalayan News Service

Rajbiraj, March 11 A three-day campaign against filariasis began in Saptari from today. Chiefs of district offices, doctors and media persons administered anti-filariasis drug to locals on the first day of the campaign. “The locals are apprehensive about taking anti-filariasis drug fearing its side-effects, so we thought of inaugurating the campaign with participation of various stakeholders. This could alleviate the fear among people and convince them to take the pill meant to save them from a serious disease,” said Bijaya Kumar Jha, public health administrator at Saptari District Public Health Office. The campaign was inaugurated at Gajendra Chowk of Saptari district headquarters Rajbiraj. According to Jha, a total of 3,214 health workers and volunteers have been deployed as part of the campaign in the district. “Through the campaign, we aim to administer anti-filariasis drug to 640,114 persons in the district,” he said, adding that the campaign will conclude on March 14.
