By Himalayan News Service

Bhaktapur, March 13 Teachers Service Commission today announced vacancies for 611 permanent teachers for the secondary level. TSC spokesperson Sudarshan Marahattha said, “These are permanent posts lying vacant since April 24, 2006. We need a new education act to call vacancies for posts that fell vacant before April 24, 2006.” According to TSC, the vacancies are for teachers of different subjects English, Nepali, social studies, mathematics, accounts, health and population, economics, Sanskrit literature, computer science, education, agriculture and Vedas. “We have set an age bar of 40 years for teachers applying for the vacancies,” he said, adding fresh applicants were encouraged to apply. Due to lack of new education act, the issue of granting permanent status to temporary teachers is in limbo. “Even temporary teachers can participate in the open competition but no teachers above 40 years of age will be allowed to sit in the exam,” he said. He also informed that they have slightly changed the curriculum for the teachers’ examination. General knowledge questions will carry 20 marks while the remaining 80 marks will be related to questions on education act and regulations, secondary level curriculum, pedagogy and others. The final selection of candidates would be made through interview. The deadline for submission of the application is April 11. Written examination for the written test will be held on June 18.
