Police rescue youth from Chitwan cliff after truck accident

KATHMANDU: An Armed Police Force team successfully rescued a youth who was stuck on a cliff in a truck accident in Chitwan district today. APF DSP Ajaya Chhatkuli said Surya Lama (19), from Chapur-1 of Rautahat district, was rescued while he had fallen off the road from a truck (Na 5 Kha 7739) in Bhanjyang-5 along the Mugling-Narayangadh road section. Lama, the assistant to the truck driver, was rescued with the use of ropes from the point around 20 metres down the road by a team deployed from the Kurintar-based APF Disaster Management Training Centre. The truck was heading toward Besisahar of Lamjung from Chapur. Lama had come out of the vehicle to provide information about the space on the road to the driver while the latter was trying to reverse the vehicle to skip a traffic congestion, police said. APF Inspector Ajaya Tamang had led the rescue team. Meanwhile, Lama, who broke both his legs in the accident, was admitted to the Bharatpur Hospital.
