Kathmandu, March 26 Gold and silver prices slumped by Rs 1,100 and Rs 15 per tola, respectively, over the week — from March 20 to 25. Gold price slipped to its lowest level in nearly one month on Thursday and is poised for its biggest weekly loss since early November as hawkish comments by US Federal Reserve officials stoked a recovery in the dollar, according to Reuters. “The comments put investors on guard for the possibility of more US interest rate hikes this year than currently anticipated, triggering a widespread correction across commodities.” The prices of the precious metals in the domestic market are governed by the rates set in the international market. The market opened on Sunday with gold price fixed at Rs 55,500 per tola and remained unchanged till Tuesday. On Wednesday, gold price fell by Rs 500 a tola to be fixed at Rs 55,000 per tola. On Thursday, gold price slumped by another Rs 500 per tola to be traded at Rs 54,500 a tola. Price of the precious yellow metal again dipped marginally by Rs 100 a tola and was fixed at Rs 54,400 per tola on Friday — the last trading day of the week. The weekly loss for the precious yellow metal stood at 1.98 per cent. Likewise, the price of silver also dropped by Rs 15 per tola — or 2.04 per cent — in the five trading days of the week. The market opened on Sunday with silver price fixed at Rs 735 a tola and its price remained same till Wednesday. Price of the white metal dropped by Rs 10 per tola on Thursday to be traded at Rs 725 a tola. Silver price again slipped by another five rupees per tola to Rs 720 per tola on Friday.
