42 lawmakers in fray for NC PP election

Kathmandu, April 7 As many as 42 lawmakers have filed candidacy for 22 positions of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party working committee election scheduled for tomorrow. One member from each of the seven provinces will be elected while the party has reservations for two Madhesi women, one Madhesi man, one Dalit woman, one Dalit man, two Janajati women, two Janajati men, two Khas-Arya women, one Khas-Arya man, one member from the backward region and one each from Tharu and Muslim communities. Those contesting for positions from the seven Pradeshes are Taraman Gurung and Deepak Khadka for Pradesh 1; Tejulal Chaudhary and Prem Kishor Prasad Sah Teli for Pradesh 2; Dhyan Govinda Ranjit and Rameswor Prasad Dhungel for Pradesh 3; Kamal Prasad Pangeni and Ram Chandra Pokhrel for Pradesh 4; Bikram Khanal and Sanjay Kumar Gautam for Pradesh 5; Tapta Bahadur Bista and Rita Shahi for Pradesh 6 and Dirgha Raj Bhat and Bharat Bahadur Khadka for Pradesh 7. On the 15 reserved seats for different communities Kamala Kumar Sardar, Pramila Devi Das and Rasmi Thakur are contesting for two Madhesi women seats; Ram Ayodhya Prasad Yadav and Lalbabu Singh Bhuiyar are contesting for one Madhesi male seat; Asha BK and Kalpana Sob are contesting for one Dalit woman seat; Khadga Bahadur Basyal and Narbhan Kami are vying for one Dalit male seat; Usha Gurung, Pushpalata Lama, Rajya Laxmi Shrestha and Gyan Kumari Chhantyal are contesting for two Indigenous women seats; and Aang Tawa Sherpa, Kanchan Chandra Bade, Jhul Bahadur Ale and Tirtha Bahadur Lama are contesting for two Indigenous male seats. Similarly Gita Wagle, Chandra Devi Joshi, Madhu Shahi Thakuri and Sharada Poudel are contesting for two Khas Arya women seats; Buddhiram Bhandary and Rajendra Kumar KC are contesting for one Khas Arya male seat; Buddhi Sagar Chaudhary and Bhotani Devi Khawas are contesting for one Tharu seat and Abdul Rajjak and Abduk Hamid Siddique are contesting for one Muslim seat. Meanwhile, Rajeev Bikram Shah was unanimously elected as he was the only contender for the one member reserved position for lawmakers from the backward region. Yesterday,party President Sher Bahadur Deuba was elected parliamentary party leader. Nepali Congress, the largest party in Nepal’s Parliament has 207 members. Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be used for the voting scheduled from 9:00 am to 12 noon tomorrow.
