The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has warned the government of launching an “effective” movement if the latter continued to curb media rights. We cannot remain silent spectators if the government keeps on threatening journalists of the government-owned media and imposes “unnecessary pressure” on media houses one or the other pretext,” FNJ chairman Bishnu Nisthuri said. He was speaking at a discussion programme held today. It will be disastrous for the government if it tries to threaten working journalists and the umbrella organisation, he said.

Coming down heavily on the government for imposing unnecessary ban on media, president of Reporters’ Club, Rishi Dhamala suggested the FNJ to initiate an effective movement against the government’s curb on media. He also urged journalists to take take part in the movement to demonstrate unity among working journalists. Shiva Gaunle of Federation of Nepalese Journalists said that the organisation would come up with phase-wise protest programmes against unnecessary harassing of the media, in the near future, which he claimed would take a new height.
