NCE’s Global Action Week to focus on education financing

Kathmandu, April 22 National Campaign for Education is all set to celebrate Global Action Week from April 24. This year NCE will focus on education financing with the theme ‘Funds for future: Education right now’. A press statement issued here today by the NCE said that reduced budget had discouraged people working in the education sector. NCE has demanded allocation of at least 20 per cent of the national budget for the education sector. It said at least 50 per cent of the total budget should be allocated for primary education. It further said that the government should provide adequate budget for free secondary education as ensured by the new constitution. NCE will be organising various programmes to mark the week. It will organise a programme in Kathmandu on April 24 with a focus on education financing. Likewise, newsletter publication, public dialogue, TV talk show on education financing are some of the other activities lined up for the week-long celebrations. The NCE is also scheduled to submit a letter of memorandum to the government to draw its attention towards appropriate education financing management and other demands for ensuring quality education. According to Global Campaign for Education, Global Action provides an opportunity to highlight one area of the ‘education for all’ agenda and make targeted efforts to achieve change with the added support of education campaigners.
