We live in a phenomenal world. The beings in this world are mortal who go through the cycle of birth and death. Suffering is the characteristic feature of those who are caught in this cycle. Their suffering arises because they are subject to desires, which leads to attachment and from which arises attraction and aversion. The feeling of love, hate, passion, possession all lead to suffering in one way or the other. People can’t let go the ones they love. Hence, when they die, their loved ones suffer. It’s not only with the case of people but also things. When people lose things they love the most, it’s intolerable. The incapability of achieving what one desires leads to sadness. People can’t let go their most important people or things which result in sadness and they ultimately suffer. Every being in this world is impermanent. Even the human body where our souls dwell goes through a cycle from birth to death which involves natural wear and tear of the body organs. The body grows old. The beauty of our body that we posses now is not permanent. It will definitely grow old in future. Nothing is constant except the change itself and it is vital that we change along with the changing environment. Stubbornness is also one of the reasons of suffering. One cannot accept change. They are stubborn and want what they have always got in the past; whether it be a loved one or a loved thing and hence, the consequence is suffering. one must always remember is: the world is one big Anitya which means the world is impermanent. Everything changes, even everybody and we have to learn to cope with this change. We always have to move with the flow. A stubborn person wishing to stay still in a running river will get himself killed. Instead, if he were to move along the flowing river, it will at least keep him alive. It is just a question of up to when we exist here. Our family members, relatives, friends or other close people die and we cry. It is natural to shed tears in their memory. But, we must always remember that world is Anitya. Suffering in their memory is not a way of what we must do after their existence. They had to go and we must bid them goodbye, praying that their souls rest in peace. I pray for all the departed souls to rest in peace, specially my grandmother who has recently left us and created a void in our lives. Maa, you were always an inspiration to us. We love you. May your soul rest in peace!
