Kathmandu, May 2 Traffic Police Division today launched an Android app that police said will help road users pedestrians and drivers better manage city movements. The app not only updates road users on traffic situations nearby, but also helps them find important phone numbers, secretly file complaints against traffic rule violators, inform the police about accidents, or find a bank in the vicinity. 'The app has 12 functions,' said Shishir Karmacharya, the app’s key architect. iPhone users will have to wait for a week or so to be able to use the app as its IOS version is under final phase of construction. These functions include traffic lights, traffic news, traffic control room number, public eye, find bank, traffic station, important numbers, traffic FM, traffic sign, information and videos. App users can get information about traffic jams, traffic rules and also watch the videos installed in the app to learn more about traffic police, traffic rules and road management. 'The app does not require any earphone to listen to the Traffic FM unlike other FM stations. So, this is a plus point for users,' explained Karmacharya. 'We are not using technology, we are living with technology,' said Upendra Kanta Aryal, chief of Nepal Police in the mobile app launch event in Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap, today. 'With road comes development. But, because of improper management of road, many accidents occur and to minimise them and create awareness, we have launched this app,' he added. 'Our main objective is to make traffic more accountable, create awareness, punish rule violators, provide traffic education, minimise road accidents and ensure traffic management,' said IG Aryal. Previously, police had launched an app called ‘Crisis Call’. This time a different branch of Nepal Police has launched the Traffic Mobile app with some advanced features. Similarly, DIG Prakash Aryal and AIG Pratap Thapa highlighted the benefits of the app. Managing Director of Morang Autoworks Bishnu Kumar Agarwal, who helped Nepal Police by providing necessary equipment, handed over the key of JCB liftoff shovel to Prakash Aryal. In the event, IG Aryal felicitated Capital Eye CEO Shirish Karmacharya, MD of Morang Autoworks Bishnu Kumar Agarwal, General Manager of Morang Autoworks Tej Prasad Subedi, DSP Gyanendra Pathak and Sita Ram Kshetri of Nepal Police for their contribution in making the app. Inspector General Police of the Armed Police Force, AIGs, Deputy DIGs and renowned industrialists were also present at the event.
