KATHMANDU: Nepal language journalists on Friday celebrated the Mother Tongue Journalism Day with various programmes. The Newah Patrakar Rastriya Dabu, an organisation of Nepal language journalists, commemorated the anniversary of the first publication of Nepal language newspaper in the nation. Dharmaditya Dharmacharya (Jagat Man Baidya) had published the first Nepal language newspaper on the day of Buddha Jayanti 91 years ago. It was probably also the first non-Nepali newspaper of the nation, according to Dabu Chairman Shree Krishna Maharjan. The organisation exhibited editions of the paper and garlanded the statue of Dharmacharya in Pulchok of Lalitpur before beginning a rally today. Speakers of a corner meeting held after the rally stressed the need to develop journalism in various mother tongues being spoken in the nation.
