Light aftershock of ML 4.4 jolts Sindhupalchok

KATHMANDU: A light tremor of local magnitude 4.4 struck Sindhupalchok district on Friday morning. The National Seismological Centre, Lainchaur, listed it as an aftershock of the Gorkha earthquake that rattled Nepal on April 25 last year. The tremor was recorded at 5:10 am today and the epicentre was close to Motang of the district. It was the first significant aftershock that the NSC recorded in last one week. The last aftershock was recorded at 3:24 pm on March 28 with its epicentre at Sindhupalchok. The coordinates of the epicentre are 27.96°N, 85.62°E. NSC has recorded more than 30,000 aftershocks of the Gorkha earthquake in one year. It, however, processed the data of around 460 significant aftershocks and alerted the public about the seismic events through its website.
