Bhojpur, June 6 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa today said the tendency to abuse the national coffers had flourished in the country in the guise of consensus rule. Talking to mediapersons at Biratnagar Airport, Thapa argued that the country should be governed on the basis of set procedures and rule of the law. He commented that of late, the tendency to maintain totalitarian system had become dominant in the name of consensus rule. “Any party that can garner majority has to rule the country and parties in the minority should stay in opposition. This is the beauty of democracy,” Thapa added. Thapa insisted that change of guard was not the need of the hour. He held that NC, UML and CPN Maoist Centre had tried to impose dictatorship in the name of consensus. Stating that the country was facing political instability for the past two decades, Thapa argued that frequent change of guard would erode the people’s trust in the government.
