DHANGADHI: All health services in Baitadi district have come to a standstill after health workers resorted to a strike after the top health official of the district was smeared black soot. A group of women on Sunday had smeared Dr Guna Raj Awasti, Chief of Baitadi District Health Office, with the black soot accusing him of declining to provide them ambulance services. Police meanwhile detained Parbati Bhul, Ganga Bhul and Radha Bhul of Dashrath Chand Municipality-1, though the main suspect Ramesh Koli is on the run. It has been learned that the Dalit leader Koli had incited the women to assault Dr Awasthi. The health care professionals in the district have been on the strike from Monday demanding that the culprits be brought to book. Meanwhile, 68 health care facilities in the district have halted their services except the emergency service in protest of the act carried out by women. Dev Raj Panta, a health care professional in the district, said health services would not resume until the main suspects Koli was booked.
