Kathmandu, June 9 Nepal Student Union, a student wing of the main opposition Nepali Congress party, today met former presidents and office bearers of the union to collect suggestions on the proposed date and venue for its 11th national general convention and other issues. A Central Committee meeting of NSU held yesterday had proposed holding its general convention from August 9 to 11 in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. UP Lamichhane, spokesperson, Nepal Student Union, today said leaders such as Govinda Bhattarai, Guru Ghimire, Min Bishwokarma, Badri Panday, Keshav Singh and others suggested to them to hold the convention on the date proposed by the central committee without further delay. Earlier on June 7, the NSU central committee meeting had floated two different dates — July 12 to 14 and August 6 to 8 — for the convention but at yesterday’s meeting, a majority of the Central Committee members proposed holding the convention from August 9 to 11. Similarly, women Central Committee members had demanded an increase in the number of women office bearers in the union. The meeting had also proposed forming a 151-member central committee with 128 elected and 23 nominated members. The NSU convention has not been held since 2007. Earlier, the Nepali Congress’s first meeting held on March 18 after Sher Bahadur Deuba took charge of the party had directed all its sister wings to hold their general conventions within six months. But none of the party wings have held their conventions so far.
