All the climate prediction on apps or news can never be expected these days. All the seasons can now be experienced in a single day. If you want me to give advice on the prevailing climate then grab an umbrella, shades, jacket and, most importantly boots, while moving out! Yeah, believe me I am in a total sense of mind while making this statement. If you look outside and see a bright sun above your head, you plan to put some shades on and move out. But during the same day, you will encounter a heavy rainfall and cold breeze striking your body within a kilometer range. Now, you may be thinking why you need the boots. Well come on! Have you seen roads here? The roads are so filled up with water that it is hard to tell whether you are really walking on a road or crossing a river. This is the part where your boots come handy. Nevertheless, thanks to the rainfall, at least the air is not full of dust. The fact is this monsoon may go away in a few months but the water logging prevails. Also don’t forget to move a bit earlier than the regular time from your home as a heavy traffic jam would be welcoming you on your journey. Now the real question is why all of these is happening? Don’t we have a proper drainage system? If not, can’t we work upon it? The root of the problem is non-smoothing of road. You find many ditches on roads and water-logging is a common thing. Lack of proper cleaning of roads and I guess the bifurcation of departments are also responsible. We see cleaning roads and dumping the mud and other things by roadside by one department but the collecting department takes a long time to collect the garbage due to which the roads are dirty again. And then comes rainfall sweeping up all the collected dust and garbage towards the outlet of drainage. We citizens are also somehow responsible for such a situation. If only the food wrappers, plastics or paper were put in proper dustbins rather than throwing them on the streets, half the problem would be solved. But wait! Are there dustbins on the side of the road for this purpose? Also, if we can offer volunteer service to the traffic police on these situations like cleaning up the dust or managing the traffic, it could be of great help. Corporations can expand their Corporate Social Responsibility programs which could enhance its value in cleaning the roads rather than focusing on cleaning Bagmati only.
