LALITPUR/KATHMANDU: Two students were killed and 24 others sustained injuries after a compound wall collapsed and hit prefab classrooms of Pushpanjali Secondary School in Taukhel of Lalitpur, on Friday. After an incessant rainfall, the wall of adjoining real estate had fallen upon the prefab structure of the private school when classes were running at around 11 am. The bricks and debris hit the classrooms of Grade III and VIII that were closer to the wall, causing the casualties. The deceased are Kripa Rai (9) and Anjana Pun Magar (10), according to B&B Hospital's Medical Director Dr Ashok Kumar Banskota. The duo had already breathed their last while they were taken to the hospital, he added. Both the girls were third grader.   As many as 19 injured, including 14 boys and five girls, are admitted to the B&B Hospital while five were rushed to the Patan Hospital from the incident site. Four of those 19 admitted to the B&B have been kept at the Intensive Care Unit, according to Dr. Banskota. Among four, one has been kept on ventilator.   One of the injured, Suyagya Dhakal (8) told THT Online from the hospital bed that he was crushed between a bench he was standing on and stones that fell off the wall before he was rescued by the teachers and senior students. The doctors attending to the third grader said he, like many other students, had developed blood clots in his head. Dhakal's classmate, Aayush Acharya, also admitted to the same health facility, said most of the injured were sitting at the back part of the classroom while the adjacent wall of the property in the neighbourhood gave a push to the rear wall of the prefab classroom before it collapsed on them. Teachers, however, were not injured in the incident. Though 15 of the injured currently receiving treatment at B&B Hospital appear to be out of danger, Dr Banskota said, serious attention would be paid on them as they may develop some nervous complications in the future. The veteran orthopaedic surgeon who is one of the founders of the private hospital, expressed happiness that the injured student could be saved. He informed that around 80 per cent of the doctors were on standby while the injured were brought to the hospital.
