PHIDIM: As many as 22 yak herders have been reported out of contact after a torrential rainfall-triggered flood swept away a makeshift bridge over Ghunsa River in Taplejung district on Thursday afternoon. According to Sailendra Yadav, Police Inspector at Taplejung District Police Office, a police team has been deployed to know whereabouts of the missing persons. Yadav, however, said immediate communication was impossible as the area was unreachable by any telephone network. Yadav nevertheless surmised that the missing farmers might have been located in various forests area in Ramdang, Nupchubhelli and Thamdang areas. Of the missing, 15 were from Ghunsa and 8 were from Phale of Taplejung district. The locals of the area, meanwhile, have been running out of daily consumables as the district headquarters Phunling has been disconnected after the bridge over the river. In another incident, a flood has swept away a part of a suspension bridge connecting Lelep and Tapethok of Taplejung. The human movement since then has come to a standstill, local police said.
