New CJ Karki, CEC Yadav take oath

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki has taken the oath of office and secrecy on Monday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath to Karki amid a special programmed organised at the President's Office. The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had unanimously endorsed the name of Justice Karki for the vacant position of Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of Nepal on Sunday. The Judicial Council had recommended Karki for the top judicial post on April 10. Her appointment, however, was pending owing to delay in formation of the PHSC. Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, among others were present in the programme. Karki is the first woman to lead Nepal's judiciary. Chief Election Commissioner takes oath Following her oath taking ceremony, Karki administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav. The oath was administered in presence of President Bhandari. The PHSC meeting had endorsed Yadav's appointment on Friday. Meanwhile, both Karki and Yadav have assumed their respective offices today itself.
