House to discuss no-confidence motion Thursday

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar on Friday fixed the date of coming Thursday, July 21, to begin discussion on the no-confidence motion filed against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Issuing a notice today, Parliament General Secretary Manohar Prasad Bhattarai informed the Speaker's decision. Meanwhile, the Parliament meeting called for 1 pm today could not take place owing to differences between major parties over agenda of the meeting. Earlier on Wednesday also, the meeting was postponed twice for the same reason. After the CPN Maoist Centre pulled out of the CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli-led government on Tuesday and subsequently registered the no-trust motion the next day, major parties are at loggerheads over what the legislative body should prioritise for the discussion. While the UML wants to endorse three pending bills related to the annual budget for the new fiscal year 2016/17 before the no-confidence vote, the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Centre say the motion against Oli should be addressed first. The Maoist party has already decided to obstruct discussions on the budget bills if they were held before the no-confidence motion was put to vote. READ ALSO:
