Death toll in Pyuthan landslides, floods climbs to 38

UPDATE: The death toll in Pyuthan floods and landslides has climbed to 38, according to Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

PYUTHAN: At least 35 are confirmed dead in floods and landslides, triggered by incessant rainfall, in Pyuthan district of western Nepal in the past two days. The death toll rose after more bodies were found on Wednesday. Police said six people are still unaccounted for. Search for the missing is underway. Three persons -- Kali Pariyar (25), Kiran Thapa (15) and Pabitra Pun -- were rescued from landslides in Bahane today,  according to police. As many as 50 houses were completely destroyed while more than 200 houses are partially damaged by floods in the district. Authorities are yet to receive of damage from many rural areas. Floods in Jhimruk and Jumri rivers still pose a threat to many settlements.     Seven more killed in landslide in Pyuthan Rastriya Samachar Samiti PYUTHAN: A landslide triggered by incessant rainfall since Monday buried five houses at Sim in Phopli-6 of Pyuthan in mid-western Nepal, killing three persons including a couple. The deceased have been identified as Narayan KC, and Dron Bahadur KC and his wife Pabitra, Hari Bahadur KC and his wife Bindu, Nara Bahadur Budhathoki and his wife Pima. Police said that four others have gone missing in the landslide that occurred last night. Hari Bahadur KC and his wife Bindu, Nara Bahadur Budhathoki and his wife Pima are missing after the incident, informed police. Hari Bahadur is the central member of CPN Maoist. However, Nani Maiya KC and Bhimsen Pun were rescued from the landslide debris. So far 20 people have been killed and 24 have gone missing in the landslide-related incidents in the district. Meanwhile, a committee formed for the relief and rescue of victims of water-induced disasters in the district has called on the government demanding effective rescue and relief efforts. READ ALSO
