KATHMANDU: Two lawmakers representing the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML on Monday said they were determined to continue discussions at the House on accusations against Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lokman Singh Karki. They warned that an impeachment motion against Karki could also be filed if the parliamentary probe found him guilty as accused by the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC. Speaker Onsari Gharti just on Sunday had discussed the issue with chief whips of major political parties and three lawmakers, who had filed a proposal of public importance demanding discussions on Dr KC's accusations at the House. A day after that, Nepali Congress lawmaker Dhanaraj Gurung, who had seconded another NC lawmaker Gagan Thapa's proposal of public importance, told journalists that the discussion would not be held just for the sake of it. 'A serious charge has been floated against him (Karki),' Gurung said, 'This is a vital issue for the nation and its people.' He informed that the legislative body would commence discussions on the issue after the new government was formed. Then, a parliamentary probe committee would be formed to look into the issue, and if the panel found Karki guilty, he would face the impeachment, the lawmaker explained. Gurung even accused the boss of the constitutional anti-corruption body of avoiding the House summon citing health reasons, but appearing in a TV show at around the same time. Speaking at the same function, UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari said his party would also actively take part in the discussion. 'I am confident that other issues and ways will be unfolded as the discussion continues,' he said. He also vented ire over Karki for avoiding summons from the House committees time and again. CPN Maoist Centre leader Prabhu Sah, however, was of the view that the proposal filed by Thapa, Gurung and Shyam Shrestha was not meant for impeachment.
