BHADRAPUR: The Jhapa District Natural Disaster Relief Committee has decided to provide Rs 40,000 each to the families of nine people who lost their life due to floods in Jhapa this month. The meeting presided over by Committee Chairperson and Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel made the decision and also took stock of efforts to reduce risks triggered by floods in Jhapa. On the occasion, Chairperson of Nepal Red Cross Society Jhapa Chapter Chair Lokraj Dhakal informed that the floods had affected 1,456 households of 17 VDCs and six municipalities in Jhapa. Among them, 31 families have been shifted to safer places. He also shared that the disaster victims were provided with 257 blankets, 511 tents, 9,300 kg rice, 1,395 kg lintel, 465 kg salt and 912 litres of cooking oil. As many as 511 flood-hit families will be provided with relief in the second phase, he further informed.
