Kathmandu, August 10 Student scouts from different schools, especially from Grade VIII to X, are helping manage traffic in the city. “The campaign was launched to ensure that pedestrians follow the traffic rules,” a traffic police said. Students have been guiding pedestrians across zebra crossings. “Even educated people who know what the rules are don’t follow them,” he said, adding, “People are more likely to feel guilty about breaking the rules if children tell them about it.” He also said that the schoolchildren’s efforts were very appreciable. “Scouts from three schools have lent their hands for this campaign,” said Kritika Timalsina, a student of Elixir Academy. The students are also seeing to it that public vehicles drop and pick passengers in the right places. Places such as Singha Durbar, Ratnapark, Anamnagar, Exhibition Road, and Durbar Marg, to name a few, are some of the busiest places in the city. The traffic policeman said, “Children have been posted in these places so more people can be helped.” “This job has been difficult, but very rewarding,” said another student Srijana Khadka.
