KATHMANDU: The death toll in the bus accident at Birta Deurali of Kavre district has reached 33, the District Police Office, Kavre, said.  Most of them had died on the spot. As many as 43 others have been injured in the incident, police said. Ministry of Home Affairs, however, said in a statement that it has received report of death of 26 people only. Among them one person died during the course of treatment while 25 bodies were found in the incident site. The injured were rescued from the incident site and sent to different hospitals in Dhulikhel and Kathmandu for treatment. The ill-fated passenger bus with registration number Ba 2 Kha 106 had plunged 500 metres down the road after the driver lost control of it, police said. After receiving reports that some people are unaccounted for, police said, they are searching the incident site. Fifteen of the injured have been sent to Dhulikhel for treatment, while 28 others, including a woman, were airlifted to Kathmandu by a Nepali Army chopper. Among those brought to Kathmandu, 18 people are admitted to the Trauma Centre while 10 others are receiving treatment in the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Kavre bus plunge: Death toll reaches 31 KATHMANDU: The death toll in the Kavre bus accident this afternoon has reached 31, according to police. District Chief of the National Investigation Department Dhan Bahadur Budhathoki said 31 bodies were already recovered from the incident site. According to him, the death toll may rise further. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Daha directed concerned stakeholders including the government bodies and leaders and cadres of political parties to rescue the injured. (Updated) At least 24 people killed in Kavre bus fall KATHMANDU: Scores of people died after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged down in Khaharekhola, Birta Deurali of Kavrepalanchok district of central Nepal on Monday afternoon. Police have already recovered 24 bodies of the victims, the Kavre District Police Office said. Earlier it was reported that, at least 28 had died in the accident. Casualties, however, are likely to increase, according to an eye witness. The bus (Ba 3 Kha 106) was heading toward Madankudari of Kavre district from Kathmandu when it skidded around 150 metres down the road in the remote village, according to Sub-Engineer at the neighbouring Kattike Deurali VDC Office, Naresh Karki. The incident occurred at around 1 pm today, he added. Around 25 others have sustained injuries as the bus carrying more than 60 passengers fell off the road. Locals and police personnel deployed from the Kattike Deurali Police Post are rescuing the injured. The victims are yet to be identified. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Bal Krishna Panthi, Kavre District Police Office chief SP Rajesh Nath Banstola and District Chief of the National Investigation Department Dhan Bahadur Budhathoki have left the district headquarters Dhulikhel for the incident site. At least three ambulances have also left the headquarters to rescue the injured. The incident site in remote Koshipari region of the district is around 45 kilometres away from the district headquarters and around 75 kilometres southeast of the Kathmandu Valley.
