Nepal bounce back to beat Netherlands

Kathmandu, August 15 Nepal won their third match of the ICC World Cricket League Championship beating the hosts Netherlands by 19 runs at the VRA Ground in Amstelveen today. Nepal also handed the Netherlands their first defeat in eight matches of the WCL Championship. The Netherlands hosted Nepal for the fourth round matches of the championship and recorded a seven-wicket win in their first encounter. Despite the loss, the Dutchmen are at the top of the table with 12 points from eight matches, while Nepal accumulated six from as many games and remained unchanged at sixth position. Earlier, Paras Khadka’s 84 runs helped Nepal reach 217 runs on the board losing nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Khadka smashed a six and seven fours in his 94-ball innings. Khadka also shared a 118-run stand with Sagar Pun for the fourth wicket to anchor Nepal’s innings after first three batsmen fell at 65 runs inside 19.2 overs.  Second highest scorer of Nepal’s innings, Pun scored 45 off 78 balls hiting two fours. Similarly, opener Gyanendra Malla scored 39 off 52 balls that included a six and a boundary. Binod Bandari struck two fours in his quick fire 17 off 14 balls after the partnership between Khadka and Pun was broken by Ahsan Mallik in 43.4 overs. Malik, who took the scalp of Khadka, also accounted for Basant Regmi (four). Nepal, who were 182-3 in 43.3 overs, lost six wickets for just 35 runs in 39 balls. Netherlands’ Michael Rippon, who bagged three wickets in the first match, was the pick of the Netherlands bowlers picking up 4-35 in six overs.
