Kathmandu, August 16 Minister for Supply Deepak Bohara today urged traders to manage smooth supply of essential commodities as the festive season is fast approaching. Talking to a delegation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), the minister informed the government is preparing to ramp up market monitoring to control malpractices like black marketing, sale of inferior quality goods and tampering of weighing machines and asked the business people to cooperate in the government’s move. According to Minister Bohara, the market price of daily essentials that had been raised when the supply line was disrupted during the border blockade has yet to be brought down even after the supply system has normalised. The Department of Supply Management and Consumer Protection has been asked to publish the reference price of the daily essentials on a regular basis. The government is also making preparations to increase the stock of essential goods so it can make necessary interventions if the private sector players form a cartel to manipulate price of daily essentials. In the meeting with Minister Bohara, the NCC delegation led by its President Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, said that NCC is also willing to join hands with the Ministry of Supply to conduct an awareness campaign on consumer rights. As per Shrestha, the NCC always promotes businesses that demonstrate social responsibility and the government should also trust the private sector and create an environment for hassle-free business.
