Birgunj, August 24 The recent decision of a district administration apparatus to recommend government land for Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre has taken a strong battering from many quarters including other political parties in Parsa lately. On Sunday, a meeting of the Local Recommendation Committee chaired by Chief District Officer Keshavraj Ghimire had recommended that a land strip of 5 kathha abutting Birgunj Sugar Mills in Birgunj Sub-metropolis-17 be awarded to the Maoist party. The recommendation was endorsed by other participants of the meeting; namely, Local Development Officer Bishwoprakash Aryal, Sub-metropolis executive officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala, Land Survey Officer Nagendra Mahato and Land Revenue Office Parsa Chief Gam Bahadur BK. United Democratic Madhesi Front today issued a press statement protesting the recommendation. The statement has further sought revocation of the decision, warning of a series of agitation otherwise. ‘Such acts of obliging a political party with state-owned land is out-and-out wrong, so the decision must be scrapped. Otherwise, we’ll have no option but to opt for a stern agitation that will see a halt to all works at all government offices in the district,’ reads the statement issued together by district leaders of parties constituent to the front. CPN-UML and Nepal Sadvawana Party have also protested the recommendation. Meanwhile, CDO Ghimire described the recommendation as per the law of the land. “As the party had earlier written to us seeking land for operating its party office, we simply took the decision to recommend that they be obliged with the unregistered land on lease for 50 years, which is by no account a wrong move on our part,” he said.
