Displaced kids admitted in Udayapur

Gaighat, August 25 Three children from the same family, Madan Rai, 14, Binita, 12, and Anjana, were displaced along with their family after the recent flooding in the Bagmati River and were unable to attend school as they were refused admission on various pretexts. The children were finally enrolled at Triyuga Higher Secondary School in Gaighat when Child Club Network Udayapur intervened on the children’s behalf. The children had been studying in Kathmandu-based Siddeshwori High School before the flood. The children’s guardians had reportedly made several attempts to enrol their wards since they first arrived at Gaighat. “Some schools refused admission due to the lack of supportive documents such as migration certificates, while some stated that they did not accept new students in the middle of the academic year,” the guardians informed. Meanwhile, District Child Welfare Committee, Udayapur took the initiative to address this issue. Chairman Bhumi Rai of the Committee said the children were admitted after the Chief District Officer took steps to admit the children in Triyuga Higher Secondary School. “The Rai family is now, happy after the children got admission in the school,” he added.
