Flooded Bagmati obstructs traffic along East-West Highway

RAUTAHAT: A flood in the Bagmati River caused by incessant rainfall for last three days has obstructed the East-West Highway in Paurai of Rautahat district since Sunday night. The water level of River has risen dramatically overnight, obstructing the traffic. About 500 vehicles travelling across temporary bridges have been stuck halfway, while many passengers are seen to be panicking inside the vehicles pleading for help. Meanwhile, CPN Maoist Centre leader lawmaker Prabhu Sah saved himself from the flood today. Some party cadres took out his jeep (Ba 1 Ja 8493) from the flood today, according to police. Likewise, police also rescued some passengers from near a temporary bridge in Chandranigahapur of the district. Meanwhile, rescue efforts are being made to save a passenger who is said to have been trapped in a vehicle travelling along the East-West Highway in Rautahat district, the Rautahat District Police Office informed.
