Festival-focused subsidised commodity shops to open Saturday

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Supplies is preparing to run subsidised commodity shops at 13 locations of Kathmandu Valley and 23 in other parts of the nation for the major Nepali festivals including Dashain, Tihar and Chhat. The shops would stay open from 10 am to 6:30 pm everyday from tomorrow, September 17, to October 8. Meanwhile, the Ministry would also run mobile shops along the Ring Road in Kathmandu Valley, it informed in a press statement today. A person can buy three kg salt and six kg sugar from the subsidised commodity shops, according to the statement. Meanwhile, the Nepal Food Corporation would provide a discount up to Rs 10 per kilogram in beans and live goats. Similarly, the Dairy Development Corporation would also provide Rs 10 discount in a kilogram of ghee and Rs 5 in the same amount of paneer. The Nepal Oil Corporation has already slashed the price of cooking gas by Rs 50 per cylinder, the Ministry informed. Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by the Ministry Secretary, Prem Kumar Rai, has formed a rapid action team to monitor functioning of such shops and overall market in the festive season.
