Joint Land Ownership Campaign in Sindhupalchok

KATHMANDU: Oxfam in coordination with various local organisations— Gramin Mahila Srijansil Pariwaar, Mahila Aatmanirvarta Kendra and Janahit Gramin Sewa Samiti—of Sindhupalchok district has launched a Joint Land Ownership Campaign in the district. The Campaign is being organised in various places of the district. The campaigners are also holding forum theatres on importance and process of joint land ownership. The Campaign will be run for the whole month of September, according to a statement issued by the Oxfam on Friday. The Campaign is launched to increase the access and ownership of women in land, the statement read. Women from rural area are still out of access to and ownership from land although they work hard there, according to the international humanitarian organisation. As many as 1,478 couples from 28 districts of Nepal have registered joint land ownership cards till 2013, Oxfam said. According to 2011 census, only 19.79% women have access to and ownership of land.
