Govt withdraws Bill on Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday has decided to withdraw the Bill on Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences (MMIHS). A Cabinet meeting held this afternoon made the decision to this effect. Withdrawal of the Bill on MMIHS is one of the demands of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital’s senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC. Dr KC has been staging fast-unto-death for the ninth time since September 26 demanding reforms in Nepal’s medical education. The National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) on September 24 had decided to rename itself as the Manmohan National Academy of Medical Sciences.   READ ALSO

Other decisions Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting today decided to appoint Punya Prasad Regmi as the Chief Advisor of Ministry of Finance. The government has also decided to present the Bill on National Debt Recovery at the Parliament. As per the decision, the Bill related to the budget for fiscal year 2016/17 would be presented at the Parliament today, said government's spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki.
