Nepali clinches Muay Thai professional event

Kathmandu, October 1 Rupal Nepali of Pokhara won the professional event of the first K Bag Muay Thai Championship here at the National Sports Council covered hall today. Nepali defeated Chitra Singh Thakuri of Tribhuvan Army Club in the final of the 70kg weight category. Nepal earned Rs 50,000, while Singh received Rs 20,000. Mandip Rana Magar of Bhatbhateni and Santosh Kumar Lama of Shin-Kyokushin were joint third and got Rs 7,500 each. Likewise, Madan Kumar Shrestha of TAC finished first in U-55kg beating Nadap Hussain of Shin-Kyokushin in the final, while Hritik Magaiya and Amit Thakuri were joint third. In the U-60kg weight category, Sagar Darji of Jawalakhel defeated Bijay Simkhada of Pokhara in the final, whereas Sanish Lama and Karan Bajracharya came third. TAC’s Padam Rai won the 65kg section gold medal beating Saroj Sewa of Jawalakhel, while Madan Tamang and Bibek Gadal finished joint third. In the women’s event, Sabina Shrestha of Bhatbhateni won the U-55kg weight category title after she defeated Karuna Upreti of Central Club in final, while Binita Rai of Shin-Kyokushin and TAC’s Sharmila Rai were joint third. The winners of the four weight categories received Rs 10,000 each, while the runners-up got Rs 5,000. The third-placed players received Rs 2,500 apiece. A total of 40 players took part in the two-day tournament organised jointly by National Muay Thai Association and K Bag Sports Pvt Ltd.
