PM Dahal, Deuba hold meeting with Madhesi parties

KATHMANDU: Leaders of ruling CPN Maoist Centre and Nepali Congress on Saturday held a joint meeting with leaders of various Madhes centric parties to discuss various contemporary issues including the purported Constitution amendment. PM and CPN MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister duo Bimalendra Nidhi and Krishna Bahadur Mahara had represented the ruling coalition. Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Co-chairman Rajendra Shrestha and Sadbhawana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna had represented the Madhesi parties. Of late, the Madhesi parties have been warning of agitation and withdrawing the support extended to the government if the latter failed to table the Constitution amendment proposal incorporating their concerns. PM Dahal had also expressed his commitment to table the proposal by the festival, which is just a week away. Before electing Dahal the Prime Minister in August first week, the NC-Maoist alliance had forged a three-point agreement with the Federal Alliance, which has the Madhes-centric parties as constituents, with a commitment to address their demands in the next amendment to the charter at the earliest.
