LUMBINI: As many as 106 persons in Rupandehi district are found to have contracted dengue since September. The number of people with this infection has gone up in last two months. Only five dengue patients were diagnosed in the district in September. Kedar Nath Shah, Vector Control Inspector at the District Public Health Office, said that the number of dengue patients was increasing since the mosquitoes' larvae were not effectively controlled. The most effective measure against dengue is to destroy the larvae of the mosquitoes; but the 'Search and Destroy Larvae' programme launched in the district was ineffective. The infection was diagnosed in the people from Bhairahawa, Butwal, Tilottama, Dev Daha, Rudrapur among others places in the district, according to the Vector Control Inspector Shah.
