Two foreigners held with live Eurasian eagle-owls from TIA

KATHMANDU: Police on Friday arrested two foreigners – an Indian and a Qatari national – in possession of six live Eurasian eagle-owls from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Mohammad Sumelan (30) from India and Faisal Mohammad (passport number: 01095185) from Qatar were arrested while they were about to board a Qatar Airlines flight yesterday. Also known as bubo bubo, the species is included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened species. Police are looking into the case.
